Evening briefing covers:
Early rest for the summit push.
Today is the most important and rewarding day of the Chakula Kangri Expedition. After a light breakfast and a final check of all gear, the team leaves Advanced Base Camp early in the morning, before sunrise. The climb starts by carefully crossing rough moraine and glacier areas. Meltwater rivers flow through the ice, so you need to move carefully with good balance and proper steps.
As you go higher, the path becomes steeper with loose rocks. This part needs full focus and careful body movement to avoid slipping or causing rocks to fall. Climbers use all technical equipment like crampons, ice axes, harnesses, and helmets to stay safe on this mixed terrain. Some sections include climbing over loose rocks mixed with snow, where guides control the pace and manage the rope teams.
When the team reaches the exposed ridge of the mountain, ropes are fixed on the steeper parts to make climbing safer. From here, the climb continues slowly across snowfields. Everyone stays alert for hidden crevasses under the snow. All climbers stay tied to ropes and move together in teams, guided by experienced leaders who watch the conditions and follow strict safety rules.
After completing all these challenges crossing glaciers, walking over moraine, climbing loose rocks, using fixed ropes, and safely passing crevasses you finally reach the summit of Chakula Kangri at 6,534 metres. Standing on top brings a powerful feeling of success and achievement.
Take time to enjoy the amazing 360-degree view the wide Changthang Plateau, the bright blue Yaya Tso and the twin lakes (Ordong Tso and Yusup Tso), the distant Tso Moriri, and many nearby Himalayan peaks like Chamser Kangri, Lungser Kangri, Mentok Kangri, Polokongka along with many other unnamed peaks and shining glaciers.
After taking photos and celebrating this special moment, the team carefully begins the descent back to Base Camp, following the same route with full attention to safety and teamwork.
In the evening, everyone gathers at Base Camp for a well-earned celebration with the whole expedition team.
A flexible buffer day retained in the itinerary for weather-related delays, rest, or a potential second summit attempt if conditions on Day 07 were not favourable. If the summit has already been successfully completed, you can relax at Base Camp, explore nearby ridges for additional views, or simply immerse yourself in the peaceful high-altitude wilderness.
This contingency ensures safety and maximises the chance of a successful summit while allowing time for proper recovery.
Dismantle Base Camp and trek back through beautiful valleys to the road head. Drive to Leh for a hot shower and comfortable hotel stay. Farewell dinner celebrating the successful Chakula Kangri Expedition.
Free morning for rest or last-minute shopping. Return rented gear and transfer to the airport. Depart with lifelong memories of this remote Ladakh mountaineering adventure.

Trip Note :
The Chakula Kangri Expedition takes place in the remote Changthang region of Eastern Ladakh, where weather conditions, road access, glacier conditions, and mountain terrain can change rapidly without prior notice. Although we schedule our expeditions during the most favourable climbing season, mountain conditions always remain unpredictable, and flexibility is an essential part of every Himalayan expedition.
Flights to and from Leh are frequently affected by weather conditions, poor visibility, or operational reasons. In the event of flight delays, cancellations, or itinerary changes beyond the control of Altitude Adventure, any additional expenses such as hotel accommodation, meals, transportation, or personal costs will be the responsibility of the participant. However, our team will provide complete logistical support and assistance to help arrange the best possible alternative travel plans.
During the expedition, the itinerary may be modified due to adverse weather, snowfall, road closures, glacier conditions, river crossings, altitude-related health concerns, or any other circumstances that may affect the safety of the team. Adjustments may include changes to driving schedules, trekking distances, camp locations, acclimatization days, summit attempts, or the climbing route itself.
All decisions regarding the expedition, including route selection, camp placement, acclimatization, turnaround times, or cancellation of a summit attempt, are made solely by the Expedition Leader. These decisions are based on the safety and well-being of the entire team and must be respected by all participants.
Although Chakula Kangri is considered a moderate to technical expedition, climbing at high altitude always involves risks associated with changing weather, cold temperatures, glacier travel, and physical exertion. Summit success depends on many factors, including weather conditions, team fitness, acclimatization, and overall mountain safety. Therefore, no expedition operator can guarantee a successful summit.
Participants are strongly advised to arrive in Leh at least one day before the expedition begins and keep one or two buffer days after the expedition to accommodate possible flight delays.
Comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and mountaineering, emergency evacuation, medical treatment, trip cancellation, and personal accidents is mandatory for all participants.
At Altitude Adventure, our highest priority is always the safety, health, and enjoyment of every climber. Our experienced guides, professional logistics team, and commitment to responsible mountain practices ensure that every expedition is conducted with the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

The Chakula Kangri Expedition is graded as a Moderate to Technical Mountaineering Expedition. The climb includes glacier travel, snow slopes, rocky terrain, and the use of technical equipment like crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, and ropes.
Previous high-altitude trekking experience is strongly recommended. Basic knowledge of crampons and ice axe is helpful. However, experienced guides from Altitude Adventure provide training before the summit attempt.
The best time for the expedition is June to September, when the weather is more stable, temperatures are better, and roads are open.
The full expedition takes 10 Days and 9 Nights, including acclimatization, trekking, climbing, summit attempt, and return to Leh.
The expedition begins in Leh (3,500 m), the capital of Ladakh. Participants arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport and begin acclimatization.
