Mamostong Kangri

Mamostong Kangri (7,516 metres / 24,659 feet) is one of the highest mountains in the Indian Karakoram and the highest peak of the Rimo Muztagh sub-range. Located in the remote eastern Karakoram of Ladakh, this magnificent mountain rises above the famous Mamostong Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in India.

For experienced mountaineers, Mamostong Kangri is one of the most prestigious and challenging expedition peaks in the Indian Himalayas. The mountain offers an unforgettable high-altitude climbing experience with massive glaciers, steep snow slopes, technical ridges, and breathtaking alpine scenery.

Mamostong Kangri is the highest mountain of the Rimo Muztagh, a remote sub-range of the Karakoram Mountains in Ladakh. Standing at 7,516 metres (24,659 feet) above sea level, it ranks among the highest mountains in India.

The mountain overlooks the vast Mamostong Glacier and is surrounded by enormous ice fields, rugged rock faces, and permanently snow-covered ridges. Due to its isolated location, very few climbers have ever reached this magnificent mountain.

Its untouched environment, impressive height, and technical climbing routes make Mamostong Kangri one of the finest examples of true Himalayan wilderness.

Mamostong Kangri has a unique place in the history of Himalayan exploration. The mountain was first successfully climbed in 1984 by an Indian expedition, marking an important achievement in Indian mountaineering.

Because of its remote location and difficult access, only a handful of expeditions have explored the mountain. Changes in border regulations and security restrictions have further limited climbing activity in recent decades.

Today, Mamostong Kangri remains one of the least explored major peaks in the Indian Himalayas and continues to symbolize adventure, endurance, and the spirit of exploration.

Mamostong Kangri is located in the remote Rimo Muztagh of the eastern Karakoram Mountains in Ladakh, India. The mountain rises above the Mamostong Glacier, close to India's northern border.

The nearest major town is Leh, which serves as the gateway to the Ladakh region. However, the mountain itself lies inside a highly restricted area where civilian access is limited.
