Born and raised in the picturesque village of Sumur in Nubra Valley, Abdul Qayoom grew up surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in the Himalayas. Sumur village lies along the ancient Silk Route that once connected Ladakh with Central Asia through the mighty Karakoram mountain range. Living in this remote high-altitude region, Abdul developed a deep connection with nature, mountains, and adventure from an early age.
His journey into the adventure tourism industry began more than two decades ago as a trekking helper, assisting expedition teams and learning the skills required to travel and survive in the rugged mountains of Ladakh. Driven by an unwavering passion for mountaineering and the outdoors, he pursued professional training to enhance his knowledge and skills.
To build his expertise, Abdul successfully completed the Basic Mountaineering Course in 2000, Advanced Mountaineering Course in 2002, and the Search & Rescue Course in 2004 at the prestigious Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi. These highly regarded courses provided him with advanced technical climbing skills, mountain safety procedures, rescue techniques, expedition planning, and leadership training — laying the foundation for a distinguished career in adventure guiding.

Following his training, Abdul spent several years guiding challenging mountaineering expeditions throughout the Ladakh Himalayas. During this period, he led climbers and adventure enthusiasts to numerous peaks ranging from over 6,000 metres to more than 7,000 metres above sea level. His vast field experience, exceptional knowledge of Ladakh's mountains, strong leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to safety earned him a reputation as one of the region's most trusted and respected mountain guides.
